Jamie's Wood
Rewilding the Scottish Borders
Closing date: 01 April 2024
Story
We are raising funds to plant 1,500 native trees to create a woodland in the Scottish borders in memory of Jamie Gardiner (1994-2017).
Jamie's Wood will provide rich habitats for wildlife and capture carbon from the atmosphere, contributing to efforts to combat climate change. As time passes, trees will grow in Jamie’s memory and over the course of our lifetimes we will see an old sheep farm and forestry plantation return to a mixed broadleaf forest of oak, willow, birch, alder and holly.
Jamie lived his passion for nature in countless walks, hikes and expeditions throughout his 22 years. Since his sudden death while mountaineering in Norway in January 2017, a group of his friend have coordinated this plan as a way to celebrate his life and passion for the natural world.
This project is being developed in partnership with the John Muir Trust and their land management team at Glenlude Estate.
